names of companies that used cnc turning and milling in the 1990’s around london area?
i worked briefly in the south east of england in the mid 1990’s using cnc machines but cannot remember the name of the company. can someone jog my memory please…
Try looking at your old tax forms for the name of the company.
How can I mill a circle on a bridgeport milling machine?
I would like to learn how you can use a normal 3 axis milling machine to cut or mill reasonable circles in steel. machine has no cnc function although it has a digital readout on two axis. Many thanks!
The hole in a 350 mm diameter pipe and the hole diameter is about 150mm. Rotary tables are no good for this, aint got one anyway! Spoke to a guy in a pub (always a good place for reliable info) and he talked about "equation of a circle" which is pythagoras to most of us, but he was well oiled and mumbled
I know what you want to do. Its cut a nice circle in pipes without all that pattern development and grinding to shape.
OK use polar to rectangular coordinates for each of 360 degrees to get your x,y figures. you will have to remember to turn the right handle first as the order will change each quarter circle. Sketch things out on paper first and then have a trial run on some scrap.
You dont have to use 360 degrees it just depends on the finnish.
remember to get the +y -y and +x -x the right way for each quarter

CNC or Mill machine shop in or REALLY close to spring?
I’m looking for a shop in or near spring 77380 that uses machines similar to a compucarve (preferably on an industrial level)…
Why…I’d like to turn a few drawings into 3-d images that can be used as molds to replicate an original art piece…hope I made sense of it, I’m still not even sure this is the type of business I need…either way if anyone can refer me to a few shops such as these or has suggestions on others better suited to my needs it’d be GREAT…THANKS in advance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can help you. We build CNC MIlling Machines for small businesses. We also have in-house capabilities and can quote you on creating the molds as long as the size is not larger than 12" x 6" x 6". We are in Conroe. www.lococnc.com
I need an operation manual for a CNC milling center.?
Model is a Mighty VMC-A760 CNC mill. A "How to operate this machine for Dummies" book would do!!!
CNC machines tend to have proprietary software… you need to contact the manufacturer for a copy of the owner’s manual.
Some models will now accept information from ’secondary’ software programs – for example, a CNC router (woodworking), will accept cut patterns from some CAD packages that design cabinets. Again, this will be dictated by the manufacturer.
Im not aware of any kind of universal book…because these machines are all different. If you don’t know how to operate a CNC machine, then you may consider asking the manufacturer/dealer for a name/phone number of someone nearby who owns the same machine, or for a company tech to come to your shop to teach you how to use the machine.
Good Luck
What is the easiest CNC control system available to buy and on which machine model?

Types of measuring scopes for cnc milling machines?
Fully mastering the use of a CNC machine tool requires an understanding of three distinctly different disciplines. First, a CNC program must be developed. This, of course, is the responsibility of a CNC programmer. Second, the machine must be made ready to run workpieces. This is the responsibility of a CNC setup person. And finally, the machine must run the workpieces in the production run. While some companies utilize the same person that sets up the machine, many companies utilize a different person to complete production runs – the CNC operator.

In CNC milling can laser, now, practically replace normal machine heads for milling larger items? If not what?
CNC MIlling Machines need traditional heads, and cutter operations. especially for large jobs.
However, lasers are great for smaller jobs, and touch-up operations. As of this point, nothing is out-their to replace a normally(Traditional) CNC Head.
What is the difference between relative and absolute on a CNC control?
This pertains to CNC milling machines and their control system.
Relative coordinates is a point from where the position is right now to where you want to go. Absolute is to move to a new location from an absolute zero point on the machine.
Example:
Lets say that you are currently sitting at zero in X, Y and Z you need to move to X5.0, Y5.0 and Z5.0 then to X8.0 Y8.0 Z8.0 and then back to X, Y, Z zero.
In relative programming it would look like this:
X5.0 Y5.0 Z5.0 (sitting at this pos your next move is a relative increment to your next pos)
X3.0 Y3.0 Z3.0 (You now moved an relative increment more than the last pos)
X-8.0 Y-8.0 Z-8.0 ( Back to the start)
In absolute programming the same motion looks like this:
X5.0 Y5.0 Z5.0 (pos 1)
X8.0 Y8.0 Z8.0 (pos 2)
X0.0 Y0.0 Z0.0 (pos 3 back to the start)
Humans tend to think in relative incremental terms. When you give driving directions it is always in relative terms, go north 1 mile (km) from there go east 2 miles (km), etc.
In CNC programming it is much easier to program in absolute mode because you always know where you are at just by looking at the current command from the zero point on the machine.
In relative programming you would need to add or subtract all of the previous moves to figure out where you are at.

CNC milling tool for machining bonded sand?
I need a tool enough hard to machine a sand material that is chemically bonded. Carbides are not enough hard. I cannot use coolant.
This is a bit of a toughie.
I would say use a harder grade of carbide – and/or a micrograin type.
If you don’t know mutch about carbide tools, then now is as good a time to learn. There are many different grades. Carbide tools use tungsten carbide embedded in a cobalt matrix which hold all the particles together. The ratios are varied – to give either harder tips – that are likely to shatter, or tougher tips – which are more likely to blunt.
If you are cutting an abrasive material, Then pick a tool with replacable industry standard tips, Run your speeds about half what is recommended, and up your feedrate to about 75% of what you would normally use. Use a larger tool if possible – then finish with a fine.
Use compressed air or mist system foor cooling the tool.
If it’s overheating – just slow down everything.
If you know anything about CNC’s – you will know that there is the manufacturers "optimim" feeds and speeds, and then there is those that actually work, due to workholding/ rigidity issues and the playoff of productivity vs tool life.
Carbide tools are also available coated with Titanium nitride or tungsten nitride, or can be bonded onto HSCO tool shanks for flexibility – and thus higher feed rates (I’ve actually used 6mm bonded end mills that bend about 15 degrees during high feedrates – and look impossible!)
Good luck with that.
(who decided bonded sand ? – what’s the advantage there?)
i want to know about consideration for feature sequence in machining using CNC milling?
-feature like pocket, face, contour, drilling
-which sequence or order is the best way to machining first?
-what are the consideration to chose the best order or sequence?why?
-any journal, article, or prove?
You need to get hold of a programming manual for a CNC machine. It will tell you about fixturing (how you hold the job down), tooling and the process generally. You could talk to a CNC production engineer who is responsible for the production of a part and ask him about the processes involved in the final part
Hope this helps
In cnc milling, what does it mean when motors are in parallel?
I need more torque from the motors in my cnc machine and can only go up to 3 amps. What does it mean when the motors are in series or parallel or unipolar?
CNC motors are stepping motors
if wired in parallel they will step equally
they cannot be wired in series!
unipolar and bipolar is something else
it relates to the driver and the winding of he motors
to get more torque you need a bigger motor and bigger driver
Or to gear down!

what are the consideration for machinist to optimum time for machining using cnc milling?
-the fastest way to machining any industrial part using cnc milling?
Increase the Spindle Speed (RPM) and decrease the amount of material being removed by 10%. The Faster Spindle Spee, and the decreased removal, should speed up the job.

i want to know..why different cutting path using cnc milling will produce different total time?
-CNC MIlling Machine
-different cutting path will produce different total time to fabricate
-which cutting path will make the fastest time to fabricate?
As previously said, straight lines are the shortest distance, so it takes less time. Also, complicated or round shapes need more acceleration or declaration times, thus making them longer. Wasted time and programming may also come into play. You may want to consider stronger/better cutters, to take more material off, to reduce the time is cuts. This does not work for everything, but in most cases, it’s a better way to go, I hope this helps. I also suggest taking all of the replays, and the advise, and consider they are all good points.

i need a 4-5 axis cnc milling machine?
i am trying to build a jet from scratch (without buying parts) and would love to get my hands on a relatively cheap machine, a small one would be sufficient but im not able to find the small sort of thing im looking for anywhere, does anyone have any idea where i might find one (inexpensive), it cant be a 3 axis as you cant mill a turbine that way. im in the uk
I don’t think "cheap" and "4-5 axis cnc" belong together. If you want this thing to work, you will need reasonably tight tolerances (which does not = cheap) and you will need metals or ceramics with reasonable physical properties, particularly strength at elevated temperature (which does not = cheap and does not = easily machinable). You could search for machine shops which already have 4, 5, & 6 axis CNC machining capabilities (and skill and experience programing them) and ask them for a quote on one of your more complicated parts. You may find the response quite surprising. Good luck

industrial part like automotive or anything
A Cylinder head is a typical and very simple example in Automotive where All machining operations are done on a CNC Milling machine or a CNC machining center except for honing operations (only if necessary). Most of the non cylindrical automotive parts which have to be machined are machined on a CNC MIlling Machine.

You can find a stack of websites for cnc machines by searching for <cnc machines>. Different machines have different capabilities, working to different tolerances and hardnesses of metals. Mass production systems like automotive have moved away from cnc because it requires skilled workmen, they prefer pressed and molded parts – except for the high end models. Aircraft and medical still have tolerance requirements for cnc, military tend to use it because they are low volume or are still using old quality standards and don’t understand what modern production methods can achieve.
Globalspec is a good place to look for data etc. and thomasnet will let you look up a local machinery supplier so you can ask them about what their machines do if you can’t find data on their website.

CRT Tube replacement in a CNC milling machine control, Anyone with CRT Knowledge?
Hi, I was wondering if anyone has replaced the CRT in a CNC MIlling Machine? The screen in my dad’s older Bridgeport CNC fried out today. I read on a forum that you can make about any monochrome CRT work if one fails as long as it will fit into the chassis. We have a CRT assembly from an older Mazak machine that works but is a little dim. The tubes look identical, same size, same orange color display, hookups, etc. It looks like I could just swap out the tube and splice the connector onto the working tube? It’s a very simple tube with no adjustments on the yoke like a projection tv gun would have. Is there anything else I should think of before going for it? My dad is just getting back into machining again, I got the data working to it and a half hour later the CRT went blank but the machine still functions. Anyway, Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, I worked with Japan CNC lathe before as a technician. There are many factors you have to take care of.
1.Different monitor need different signal although they are CRT type since their control circuit are vary. You should ckeck their signal pin and power requirement for details.
2.Are the two CRTs really same?. I mean the number of display line, etc.
3. Your machine is still functioning while CRT got blank I think this because the display function doesn’t affect the program.
Hope this may help

how can i create my own 3-axes CNC milling machine?
Tell me procedure, things used for creating machine, and other information.
I can share my experience. Many people elect to adapt a standard mill to CNC. Instead, I purchased a "CNC-ready" mill from TAIG (http://www.taigtools.com/) and a Xylotex drive box (http://www.xylotex.com/). As I’m sure you’re aware, stepper motors drive the mill’s lead screws and control the motion of the mill. I use a standard Windows machine running ArtSoft’s Mach3 (http://www.machsupport.com/) to control the mill.
To actually do anything useful, you’ll also need CAD software to design the parts you want to build and CAM software to generate tool paths from the parts you’ve designed. CAM software is frequently over looked by people new to CNC and can be far more expensive than CAD software. Common CAM packages are MasterCAM and BobCAD. I suggest searching around for a package you can afford.
If you go a route similar to mine, expect to spend about $2000 on the mill, drive box, motors, and accessories. In addition you’ll need a workstation to control the mill, software to control the mill, software to design your parts, and software to generate tool paths from the parts. I use mine principally for making parts for robots and it’s been great.
Good luck!
